Takashi Tsukamoto specialises in the discipline of political science and international relations by exploring the following three primary thematic interests:

Nationalism and Post-colonialism: politics of national and other identity formation; ambiguous nature of the role of the “Otherness”
Multiculturalism: historical development of the relationship between majority and minority groups; ethno-cultural tensions and political stability; the discourse of multiculturalism
International Politics and Regional Conflicts: historicity and historical narratives in regional conflicts; nationalisms and national identities in bilateral and multilateral contexts

He has a specific geographical interest in East and Southeast Asia, where he has been working both academically and professionally for the past two decades.
