Profile

Kazutaka Sugiyama was born in Nara, Japan. He finished his B.A. in English and American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Boston; then he moved to the University of Illinois at Chicago (U.I.C) where he studied critical theory and contemporary fiction. After completing a M.A. at U.I.C, he went to Texas Tech University for his Ph.D. in English. He earned his Ph.D. in 2018. Sugiyama’s research interest includes, but is not limited to, contemporary fiction (British, American, and Japanese) and critical theory (posthumanism and neoliberalism). He is particularly interested in novelists like Don DeLillo, Kazuo Ishiguro, Haruki Murakami, and Richard Powers.
