The 16th Yamanashi International Students Japanese Speech Contest was held on Saturday, Dec 14th.
33 international students studying at universities all over Yamanashi participated in the contest. The theme was 私が未来に残したい思い (“The thoughts I want to leave to the future generation”). Participants each prepared a 5 minute speech in Japanese.
We had three talented students participate from iCLA. 4th-year student Friday Chikwala was awarded Second Place, and 2nd-year student Sum Yi Chan was awarded the Kofu Special Award. All three iCLA participants are from the Intermediate Japanese class.
A warm congratulations to each participant!
iCLA has an extensive Japanese Language Program (JLP). Students can enter iCLA with little or no Japanese language ability. The Japanese Language Program provides international students the opportunity to reach a high level of proficiency in Japanese by the time they graduate. Courses are divided into three levels: Elementary, Intermediate and Advanced.
