In this iCLA faculty/student interview, Japan Studies Program Co-Director Darren Ashmore and fourth-year iCLA student Erika Ishigaki, who is completing a Performing Arts concentration, discuss the subject of pop culture as a field of study at iCLA and its importance in a liberal arts education.
Both reflect on Japanese anime in general and recall their first experiences with Hayao Miyazaki’s movies in particular.
Erika describes how the study of Manga, Anime, Film, and Theatre at iCLA will help her pursue her ambitions.
